Emerald Fall tells the story of Pehtar. Pehtar doesn’t mind living in a village floating in the sky. He just turned seventeen, has a tiger-striped cat, and the love of a warrior, Shaher. Not to mention his visions every night that help him predict how crops will grow—they aren’t doing well. As his village’s reserves meet their end, an enticing stranger appears in a vision, claiming to have Pehtar’s same powers, promising aid for his people. Pehtar’s quest to meet this stranger draws him and his friends into a world bigger than they ever knew existed filled with rebels disguised as servants, a foreign-born Vizier and his disabled brother, and soldiers who can conjure matter out of thin air. Pehtar and Shaher love each other and want to save their home. Their biggest fear is how much they’ll lose in the process.
